If talking to yourself is the first sign of madness, then I’ve definitely lost the plot! ?
“You’re not smart enough”
“You’re not capable”
I used to tell myself these things daily and I believed these thoughts to be true.
I’d be in a team meeting.
My boss would ask the room for their opinion on a particular topic.
I had an opinion, I knew the subject well!
But my opinion got stuck in my throat, I couldn’t find my voice.
Because the voice in my mind was so much louder than my real voice could ever be.
“You’ll say something stupid”
“You’ll get it wrong”
The conversation I’d been having in my mind was so loud, I’d missed the actual conversation in the room…
So even if I had found the courage to give my opinion, I couldn’t risk it because someone might have said it already and then I’d look doubly stupid!
Such a simple thing felt so stressful. ?
Over time those kinds of thoughts, and the stress they create started to take its toll on my body.
Just a few of the signs I chose to ignore until my body forced me to take notice ? ✋?
These days I am able to share my thoughts and opinions confidently.
As well as addressing my food and exercise habits I had to address my thinking habits.
Health is much more than what you eat…
It is what you are thinking, saying and believing too.
These days I still talk to myself, but I am kinder to myself!
“I am smart”
“I can do anything I put my mind to”
“I have a lot to offer”
Here’s how you can be kinder to yourself and relieve stress on your body –
- Ask yourself what limiting and negative thoughts you have about yourself
- Write a journal daily and see what’s coming up
- Say to the mirror or write down positive affirmations each day, that counter your negative self-beliefs
It’s time to lose the plot and start talking to yourself – positively!
