Quite often is the case that our healthy habits go out the window over the festive period…

Christmas parties and the ‘it’s Christmas’ mindset as we reach for yet another chocolate don’t help.

So I’m here to help you get back on track.

Not because you should but because you want to…

So if you want to feel more energetic and healthy, join in with this weeks Heal-Thy Habit focus –
STOP THE JUNK!

Let’s break the habit of giving into an urge for sugar or other junk food straight away.

Let’s create a break between the craving and acting on it.

Put a timer on for 30 minutes every time you find yourself going to reach for the chocolate/crisps/cheese/junk etc… to which you’ve become accustomed to over the Christmas period.

Wait the 30 minutes and then if you still want it, have it.

The point is to create a delay. Some space between wanting and having.

During that 30 minutes you could –

  • Drink some water as often we mistake hunger for thirst
  • Snack on fruits or vegetables instead
  • Have a meal if you’re actually hungry

If after 30 minutes you still want it, go and have it.

If you want to take this to the next level, you could do some journaling during that 30 minutes and see what comes up for you.

Often food is used to push down emotions and feelings we don’t want to deal with.

It’s a way of numbing them out.

However it’s not particularly effective and then leads to additional feelings relating to over indulgence and body image.
